The news comes to us courtesy of Business Insider. The outlet spoke with Jai Courtney for his upcoming film Storm Bay. During the conversation, talks turned to James Gunn’s upcoming reboot of The Suicide Squad. Jai Courtney confirmed that he is indeed returning to the role of Captain Boomerang. Jai Courtney confirmed:
“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time. There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”
Though casting details regarding The Suicide Squad are not entirely clear, recent reports have said that some characters from David Ayer’s 2016 film will be making a return, though we may see some new faces. In addition to Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is heavily suggested to be making a reprisal. We also learned that Deadshot will be back for James Gunn’s film; however, that Idris Elba will be taking over the character for Will Smith.

The Suicide Squad is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes The Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Nightwing, Supergirl and New Gods.
Following Aquaman, which is now playing, the DCEU continues with Shazam! on April 5, 2019, followed by Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
