Jake Gyllenhaal On His Role As Mysterio In ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

Mysterio’s look in Spider-Man: Far From Home has finally been revealed and Jake Gyllenhaal recently shared his perspective on playing the character.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home finally dropped not too long ago and audiences got to see a look at the character Mysterio. This will be Mysterio’s first appearance on film despite being such a famous villain of the wall crawler. While originally Gyllenhaal was supposed to replace Tobey Maguire at one point in the Raimi Spider-Man films, he finally makes his way into the Spider-Man universe as the fishbowl-wearing supervillain this year. Whether or not Mysterio is a hero or a villain in the movie is unknown, and Gyllenhaal hasn’t made any confirmation otherwise. He still had a lot to say about finally being in a superhero movie on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

I guess the movies I make are a little weird. It is different and it’s really fun, I was looking for a role in a space that felt like I could do something with it – and I did something with it. I don’t know how good I did with it but I did something with it. It’s very exciting.

Audiences are happy to see Mysterio finally and Jake Gyllenhaal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Vulture already introduced, this could later set up for Sinister Six to happen as well. Do you think Mysterio is a hero or a villain? Do you think Gyllenhaal will make a seamless transition as a character in a blockbuster superhero film? Let us know in the comments.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Numan Acar, J.B. Smoove, Oli Hill, Remy Hii, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in theaters on July 5, 2019.
