Jake Gyllenhaal Explains What Drew Him To Mysterio In ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

Jake Gyllenhaal is a very particular actor. He puts a lot of thought and care into the roles that he selects. That also applies to him playing the character of Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home.

While at the Sundance Film Festival a few days ago to promote another film of his, Velvet Buzzsaw, Jake Gyllenhaal sat down with the Los Angeles Times and was asked about the role of Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man film. What drew him to the role and the film itself was to find something character-driven and that aligns with his particular skills as an actor. Here’s what he had to say:

“My response has always been, particularly since being at Sundance, so many of the stories have always been, for many years since I’ve been coming here, character-driven. And that has always been my desire is to find something in that space that seems to match my skill and also what I love and my own honesty. And it just so happens that it does with that part. So I’m glad that people feel excited about it.”

You can watch Jake Gyllenhaal discuss what drew him to play Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home in the video below.

Between this and Gyllenhaal’s intensity as an actor, it definitely sounds like he’s bringing a lot to the role of Mysterio. After all, the character seems to have a heroic role, based on descriptions and the first teaser trailer. It remains to be seen, though, but what do you think about Gyllenhaal’s words? Are you excited to see him play Quentin Beck in Far From Home? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

“Peter Parker returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the next chapter of the Spider-Man: Homecoming series! However, Peter’s plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent!”

Spider-Man: Far From Home is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Micheal Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Laura Harrier, Zach Barack, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, Numan Acar, J. B. Smoove, Oli Hill, Remy Hii and Hemky Madera.

The film will swing into theaters on July 5, 2019.
