‘Bond 25’ Script Getting A Rewrite From ‘Bourne Ultimatum’ Scribe

The script for the currently untitled James Bond film (Bond 25), and last film in the Daniel Craig-era is receiving a rewrite from The Bourne Ultimatum scribe, Scott Z. Burns.

According to The Playlist, we have new details on the current state of the untitled James Bond 25 film and by the sounds of it, it’s been a rocky road for this film thus far. Burns has now been brought on t rewrite the script that clearly no one has been happy with. Burns is quickly emerging in Hollywood as one of the top people to call when scripts go sideways. He’s been called on in the past to help with emergency script-fixes for films such as Ocean’s Twelve, The Bourne Supremacy, and even Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; although for these projects, his script work remains uncredited. In the case of Bond 25, it looks as though it will be a fairly hefty rewrite and ultimately may land Burns with a first formal screenplay credit on a James Bond film.

Bond 25 has been having a rough patch recently with the release date being pushed back from its February 14, 2020 debut to now being scheduled for April 8, 2020. With the previous James Bond-helmer Danny Boyle exiting after clashing with star Daniel Craig and now clearly no one being happy with the current draft of the script, the film’s release date being pushed back a few months makes sense. This is confirmed to be Daniel Craig’s last outing as Bond and it’s clear that they are wanting to end his tenure as Bond the right way.

Previously it was thought that Danny Boyle’s version would have featured James Bond’s ultimate demise at the end of the film. With Danny Boyle now replaced by director Cary Fukunaga and Burns aboard to rewrite the script, it looks as if the untitled Bond 25 film may be finally getting its feet under it. Bond 25 was lucky to snag Burns to rewrite the script as they’ve actually been trying to hire him for months. The studio has been aware that an overhaul of the script has been needed and has been courting Burns but he was previously tied up with his Sundance film, The Report. Now that Burns’ duties on the project are complete, he was snatched to take the rewrite reigns on the latest James Bond film.

Production on the 25th James Bond film is set to begin on March 4, 2019, at Pinewood Studios. Details on the project are currently unknown, though it is set to be Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007 after having played the character in Casino RoyaleQuantum of SolaceSkyfall, and Spectre.

James Bond 25 is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 8, 2020.
