James Cameron’s Avatar was released back in 2009 but work on the film’s franchise has been ongoing for Cameron.
During a rare appearance at CinemaCon, Cameron announced some major news for the Avatar sequels. Instead of three movies, the franchise will include four movies. Avatar 2 will be released in Christmas 2018 with sequels continuing around December in 2020 and 2022 and 2023.
“We’re making four epic films that stand alone but together form a saga. These movies were designed to be seen in theaters first.”
Cameron assured fans that he is working with the top talent to help bring Pandora back to life on the big screen.
“I’ve been working with the top four screenwriters and designers in the world to design the world of Avatar going forward. The environments, new cultures, whatever it takes to life. From what I’m seeing the art on the wall …in pure imagination is just beyond the first film. I’m speechless.”
Avatar currently holds the record for being the highest grossing movie worldwide in history. Making over 2.7 billion at the box office.
