But the news doesn’t stop there. It is also being reported that Deadpool director Tim Miller is in-talks to helm this project. This new film would serve as a reboot and conclusion to the franchise.
The most recent film in the series, Terminator Genisys, which was directed by Alan Taylor starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, and Jason Clarke as John Connor received negative reviews from critics, and grossed $440.6 million worldwide. Genisys was originally the first film in what would be a newly rebooted trilogy within the franchise.
Many fans of the series have felt underwhelmed with the last three entries. The Terminator and T2: Judgement Day are widely considered to be two of the most beloved films in both the action and sci-fi genres. Those films pushed the envelope and visual effects, but also helped influence modern action filmmaking. However, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys have failed to endure with audiences. Hopefully, with James Cameron retrieving the rights, this proposed reboot/conclusion would be worth of the original two films. Also, with Tim Miller potentially involved, I’m curious to see what he would bring to the lore.
