Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' director James Gunn and DC Films producer Geoff Johns unite together in love for both comic brands.
Fans may not realize this, but it is in fact possible to be a fan of both Marvel and DC. Unfortunately due to the advent of social media, fans come off as incredibly tribal due to the level of devotion they have for their respective brands.
That’s not to say that having a passion for a brand of comic book characters is a bad. Loving Marvel and/or DC comics is the reason why we have more films and television series in the Heroic Age of Hollywood.
But blind adoration for one brand mixed with blind disdain for another showcases the misguided nature that ignores why people are comic book fans in the first place.
Thankfully, James Gunn and Geoff Johns have come together on Twitter to unite fans from both Marvel and DC. And as it turns out, both Gunn and Johns are fans of each other’s work.
This isn’t the first time Gunn has expressed enjoyment of DC properties. A few months back, Gunn tweeted Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins to express his excitement for that film. Gunn also enjoyed Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and has expressed excitement for the upcoming Justice League movie.
Either way, if you enjoy Marvel properties more, that’s fine. Same thing goes for DC properties. But it is possible (and perhaps healthier) for fans to just enjoy any great stories comics bring. Besides, this Heroic Age of Hollywood is the best time to be a fan, and it will only get better for years to come.
