Director James Gunn has long since teased that there are plenty of Easter eggs in his films and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is no different. In a recent Instagram story, Gunn confirmed a rumor that he has a small on-screen role in the introduction of the sequel. Fans have still not found the big Easter egg hidden in the first film that director James Gunn has previously mentioned, but for now, it’s easy to enjoy the director’s performance as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
On Instagram, James Gunn confirmed a report that claims that when Groot dances at the start of the cosmic Marvel film, it’s actually him dancing in a motion capture suit. So while rest of the Guardians are fighting the inter-dimensional monster with Electric Light Orchestra’s Mr Blue Sky playing in the background, it’s the director bringing Groot’s moves to life. Details on the third chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame. The film is also set to be the final outing for this current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn. Chris Hemsworth’s involvement is speculated upon, due to Thor joining the Guardians at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but it has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios or James Gunn.
