James Gunn Explains Why ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ Release Date Wasn’t Announced At SDCC

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 director James Gunn took to Twitter to explain why the film’s release date wasn’t revealed at San Diego Comic-Con during the Marvel Studios panel this weekend.

James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is definitely on Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate of movies, but he’s still hard at work on another comic book property. The director responded to a fan on Twitter and wrote there wasn’t an update on the Guardians because he’s finishing The Suicide Squad first for Warner Brothers and the DC Extended Universe. Check out James Gunn’s tweet below.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has had a rocky road in terms of its production schedule over the course of the past year. James Gunn was famously dismissed from the project after a series of controversial tweets were uncovered over ten years ago. After Gunn was fired, the filmmaker accepted the directing gig for the next iteration of the Suicide Squad.

Shortly afterwards, Marvel Studios rehired James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and the rest was simply history. Gunn is the first director to ever work on comic book movies for Marvel and DC at the same time.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest updates on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
