A while ago, James Gunn revealed a Guardians of the Galaxy-related challenge for Easter Egg hunters, noting that there was a big Easter Egg that nobody was able to figure out in spite of the movie being out for several years at that point. So far, nobody’s found it… But James Gunn has offered some updates on the years-spanning search.
As it turns out, someone has figured out part of what they need in order to solve this mystery. While they have a way to go, James Gunn has said that they’re getting closer to figuring out the big secret of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie (although he also explains that people haven’t even scratched the surface of the Easter Eggs in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2):

While production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early this year, the project was put on hold following the decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, James Gunn will begin production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC. Details on the third and final chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.
James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.
