Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn told a Twitter fan he has a great idea of a Moon Knight movie and has told Marvel about it.
James Gunn confirmed he’d already informed Marvel Studios of his idea, but his time was obviously full with Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (and presumably a potential third film). Moon Knight has been rumored as a character in the next tier to make it to the screen, with fan calls for a Netflix series seeming the most plausible given the Marvel shows’ gritty, adult setting on the streaming platform. James Gunn’s idea for a movie is higher risk/higher reward, possibly as a new character introduced in Phase 4 alongside the Guardians, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man sequels that will dominate the 2019-2020 time frame. If Guardians 3 hits theaters in summer 2020, that means Gunn could conceivably tackle the character thereafter.
While sharing similarities with a wealthy costumed vigilantes like Batman, the Marvel superhero Moon Knight differs in his mystical origin, which includes an Egyptian god of the moon resurrecting Moon Knight alter ego, mercenary Marc Spector, to be his avatar on earth. Furthermore, Spector continues to suffer from multiple personality disorder after his transformation, becoming at times a multimillionaire entrepreneur or a tax driver.
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
