James Gunn Not Pleased With ‘The Suicide Squad’ HBO Max Release

The studios decision to release their upcoming 2021 films on the streaming service is upsetting filmmakers.

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn isn’t happy with Warner Bros. releasing the film on HBO Max.

The news that Warner Bros. is releasing all of their upcoming 2021 films on HBO Max is making some directors very unhappy. In a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, the trade reveals that James Gunn is amongst the unhappy directors. Here’s exactly what the trade had to say:

WarnerMedia had to shovel tens of millions at Gal Gadot and the other key players because the company wants a third in the series. But that sets the bar high. Sources say even Suicide Squad director James Gunn, who is platform-agnostic, was not pleased when the studio followed its shocking announcement by floating a lackluster formula for compensating him and other profit participants in the film.

What do you think of Warner Bros. releasing films on HBO Max? Do you agree with James Gunn? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on a fresh take on the team in his upcoming movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding James Gunn and Sylvester Stallone, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
