James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Reboot Confirmed To Take Priority Over Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3

James Gunn will put his full focus on The Suicide Squad before returning to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is back on track with writer/director James Gunn, who helmed the previous two Guardians of the Galaxy films prior to being fired off of the threequel back in July 2018. Disney has since re-hired the director back to the project but since his firing, James Gunn has attached himself to another comic book film, The Suicide Squad.

After it was announced that he would return to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, many fans wondered if he would leave The Suicide Squad to pursue the Marvel film but it turns out that will not be the case. During a recent interview with Joblo, Aquaman and Shazam! producer Peter Safran revealed that Gunn will focus on bringing The Suicide Squad to the big screen and will then return to the helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

“No, it was all handled incredibly elegantly and everybody knows on both sides that Suicide Squad is the priority today and he’ll finish that movie and then everybody knows that his next film will be Guardians. It’s the best of all possible both worlds, I think, for fans and for James Gunn himself.”

The next installment of the DC Extended Universe is Shazam!. Check out the film’s synopsis below:

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
