‘The Suicide Squad’ Director James Gunn Gets King Shark Cakes For His Birthday

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn celebrated his birthday with two cakes inspired by DC Comics’ King Shark.

Director and writer James Gunn is currently hard at work on The Suicide Squad, a fresh take on the team of supervillains that will feature both returning favorites alongside brand new characters. DC Comics villain King Shark is reportedly one of those newcomers and James Gunn shared a photo of two cakes he received for his birthday that were inspired by the character.

Posted on his official Instagram account, the first image reveals a cake featuring a comic book design with the well-known photo of King Shark reading. The second photo features a cake with a shark fin on the top.

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the supervillain team in his upcoming movie, with Idris Elba playing a new character, Jai Courtney reprising his role as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman playing Rick Flag again, David Dastmalchian starring as Polka-Dot Man, and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller. John Cena is reportedly in talks for an undisclosed role.

The Suicide Squad is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The BatmanThe FlashGreen Lantern CorpsBirds of PreyBlack AdamNightwingSupergirl and New Gods.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
