Gunn had been suddenly pulled off of writing and directing Marvel’s third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after a series controversial tweets that the director sent out as far back as 2009 surfaced in July. Shortly after his firing, he was reportedly being eyed for projects by other studios including Warner Bros.
Now that it’s been revealed that Gunn has lined up his next job writing the Suicide Squad sequel with an eye to direct, fans naturally have a lot to say about it. You can check out some reactions from the internet below.
Warrior director Gavin O’Connor was previously set to write and direct Suicide Squad 2 with Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith having been confirmed to return for the sequel. Gunn, however, will reportedly have a whole new take on the supervillain team-up, making it unclear as to whether or not the studio will bring back the original cast or hit the reset button on the sequel altogether.
Plot details on the previous script were under wraps, however, the story was once rumored to center on the supervillain team’s mission to find a terrifying new Weapon of Mass Destruction that happened to be Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.
