Warner Bros. Extremely Happy With James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ Script

The powers that be over at Warner Bros. and DC are reportedly very pleased with the script for The Suicide Squad by James Gunn.

This report comes to us courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. Studio executives at Warner Bros. are riding high on James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad script and so much so that the project is expected to head into the casting phase soon after living the last couple of years with a revolving door of writers and directors being attached. Details are sparse on which characters will feature in Gunn’s lineup; however, in addition to a new writer/director, reports indicate that this time out the titular squad will be comprised of almost an entirely new cast of DC characters.

Last week, Will Smith departed the James Gunn project after he and the studio amicably agreed to part ways. Today, it was announced that Joel Kinnaman has been axed from The Suicide Squad as the upcoming film will feature a new take on Rick Flagg.

You may recall, Gunn was recently brought aboard by WB and DC following Disney’s firing of the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker last year to helm a new reboot of the Suicide Squad franchise. James Gunn is taking over for the series’ initial director David Ayer.
