The Suicide Squad director revealed on Instagram during a Q+A session that he passed up on directing a Superman movie so that he could take on a new version of Suicide Squad. James Gunn explained that The Suicide Squad was the only story he wanted to tell when DC offered him one of their projects following his controversial firing from Disney. James Gunn also revealed an interesting detail about the Superman movie that DC had offered him.
When James Gun answered a question about directing a Superman movie on Instagram, he explained that when DC offered him the project it wasn’t necessarily a sequel to Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel. This small detail implies that DC might be considering a move away from the Superman we’ve already seen established so far. Either way, James Gunn chose to direct The Suicide Squad because it’s one of his“favorite properties in the world”. Take a look at James Gunn discussing a potential Superman movie below.
Are you excited to see James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad? Or are you disappointed we won’t get to see his take on Superman? Sound off in the comments below!
David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The sequel will see the return of four cast members from that film: Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is expected to deliver a new take on the titular supervillain team, with Idris Elba playing a new character on the team, David Dastmalchian starring as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, and Steve Agee voicing King Shark. Other cast members confirmed for the ensemble picture include John Cena, Storm Reid, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Mayling Ng, Jennifer Holland, Pete Davidson, Juan Diego Botto, Alice Braga, Tinashe Kajese, Julio Ruiz, and Joaquín Cosío.
The Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 6, 2021.
