James Gunn Says He’s ‘Enormously Excited’ About Helming ‘The Suicide Squad’

James Gunn recently spoke about his excitement for writing/directing the upcoming reboot The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad hits theaters in 2021 and will feature the return of some of the first film’s iconic characters. Suicide Squad debuted in 2016 and featured an all-star cast including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney. Aside from Will Smith, it seems that James Gunn will be bringing back those cast members in The Suicide Squad, along with some new blood, including Idris Elba.

James Gunn was recently speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the film Brightburn, which he produced, and he briefly talked about his excitement for helming The Suicide Squad. Check out what James Gunn had to say about going into pre-production on The Suicide Squad below.

“I am in pre-production on The Suicide Squad, which I am enormously excited about.”

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will hit theaters just a few months after Matt Reeves’ The Batman premieres. Coincidentally, 2016’s Suicide Squad opened mere months after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice but the window between James Gunn and Matt Reeves’ films will be even smaller, with The Batman opening in June 2021 and The Suicide Squad arriving in August.

James Gunn’s next film after The Suicide Squad will be Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn was fired from helming that film last year but has since been re-hired by Disney. the James Gunn-produced film Brightburn hits theaters this May.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as soon as more information becomes available. Are you looking forward to Jame Gunn helming The Suicide Squad?
