James Gunn Refuses To Spoil ‘The Suicide Squad’ With Peacemaker Timeline

The series will explore Peacemaker's origin, but it's not clear if it's set before or after 'The Suicide Squad'.

James Gunn has revealed that he won’t share the timeline of the Peacemaker before The Suicide Squad hits theaters.

Fans were recently excited to learn that The Suicide Squad is getting a spin-off series on HBO Max. James Gunn is working on a series focusing on Peacemaker, the Suicide Squad character played by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena. Peacemaker is both a hero and a supervillain. He’s constantly striving to achieve peace and harmony — the only problem is he’ll do literally anything to work to his goal. More often than not, this means murdering people in cold-blood.

Earlier this week, James Gunn shared that he isn’t going to announce when the Peacemaker series takes place until after The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters, presumably to avoid spoilers for the highly-anticipated DC Comics film. The filmmaker had also previously confirmed that working on the Peacemaker series won’t affect the plans for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Interestingly, Gunn also noted to one fan that just because the HBO Max show will examine Peacemaker’s origins, it doesn’t mean it’ll be a typical prequel. Take a look below.

What do you make of the Peacemaker series news? Are you excited to see what James Gunn has in store for fans? What do you want to see from The Suicide Squad? Let us know in the comments section!

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the team in his upcoming movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding James Gunn and the Peacemaker series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
