‘Logan’: James Mangold Clarifies Hugh Jackman’s Comments About Timeline

Following cinematic timelines is hard, especially in superhero movies. Just a couple of days ago, Hugh Jackman explained how the studio gave him a blank canvas to make Logan and this is how the movie ended up being “not only different in terms of timeline and tone, but a slightly different universe” as he puts it.

Now a lot of people have taken this and interpreted as the movie being set in its own unique timeline ignoring all previous movies, but it is worth noting that Jackman also added that it is more of a different paradigm and that it will become clear once we see it.

And now the film director James Mangold has taken Twitter to shed some light on the subject, explaining that Logan is just set years past any X-Men movies.

That looks a lot clearer now, and as Mangold has stated before, their goal was to pick a time where he and Jackman had enough elbow room to create a new story without having to cope with previous entanglements. And since the epilogue of Days of Future Past took place around the year 2024, this gives Logan plenty of room to create its own setup for year 2029 without really worrying about any previous timelines.
