During the interview, we asked with all the superhero films out there, how did he intend to differentiate Aquaman from an already vast crowd. Wan responded by stating that he wanted to make it more of a classic adventure film that had more in common with Krull then any other modern superhero film:
The first thing I wanted to do was take it out of the traditional superhero box. I didn’t necessarily want it to have a traditional superhero storyline and that’s why I made it more of a classic adventure story… a quest movie, and in terms of genre it leans more towards fantasy than anything else. It’s probably more like Krull than it is any other superhero movie. It’s more like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars than what we’re used to seeing in the superhero landscape.
From the look of things, James Wan had the idea of how to make Aquaman different right from the start!
