“They asked me which of the two characters I’d be interested in and it was between The Flash and Aquaman,”
Wan ultimately chose Aquaman. He wanted to stay away from The Flash because there have been plenty of live action iterations of the character, including the current TV Show. I can understand why. It’s a lot of pressure to try an top the TV show. It’s a very popular series and fans have been rioting ever since The Flash from the series wasn’t cast in the movie. Basically helming The Flash solo film means you have some very big shoes to fill.
“The thing that ultimately pushed me more towards Aquaman is I love the possibility of creating a whole new world, I’ve always wanted to do a world creation story and visually create this amazing, incredible, magical kingdom. And also, I love the fact that Aquaman is an underdog character. I love the fact that people like to make fun of him. [Laughs.] I feel the bar is a lot lower and I can have fun with him!”
I think Wan is the perfect choice to direct Aquaman and his portfolio definitely backs up that claim. Aquaman was introduced in this spring’s, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice*. You can catch him in 2017’s Justice League.
What do you guys think? Would you have preferred him directing The Flash or do you think Aquaman was the right Choice? Sound off in the comments section!
