The sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve follows the new Blade Runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) after he discovers a terrible secret that could send what is left of society into chaos prompting him to go on a search for Rick Deckard (Ford). The old Blade Runner has been missing since the events of the original classic.
The trailer gave us a glimpse at Leto’s character who had been revealed as a creepy manufacturer of replicants during the footage that was presented at Cinema Con. But in a recent interview with London Evening Standard, Leto opened up and revealed his character’s name to be Neander Wallace:
“I play a character called Neander Wallace — to be honest they had me at the name.”
After realizing he may have said too much, Leto went on to express his love of Scott’s original and recalled the influence it has had on him as an actor as he regarded his experience working on the sequel as a highlight of his career:
“I can tell you that the experience of making it was one of the highlights of my film career. Throughout my life I’ve always gone back to that film. There was something in it that really touched me and taught me a lot about cinema. There’s a level of craftsmanship and beauty that’s unparalleled.”
The film stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista and Jared Leto. Here’s the official synopsis:
