Jared Leto is looking forward to a new version of The Joker.
As future comic book movies open up the multiverse, more and more actors are getting the chance to play different versions of iconic characters. This was notably seen when Joaquin Phoenix took on the Joker role just three years after audiences were introduced to Jared Leto’s version for the DC Extended Universe in Suicide Squad.
Various reports have surfaced saying that Jared Leto was unhappy that Warner Bros. was moving forward with a standalone Joker film without him. Still, the actor explained in an interview with Deadline that he is actually excited about seeing new actors step into the role:
“I think in the next 10 or 20 years we’re gonna keep seeing these amazing interpretations and so many different people get to steep in those shows. These Marvel, DC, yeah, they’re popcorn movies but sometimes they’re a little bit more. Sometimes they start to reflect who and what we’re all about in our times. Sometimes they’re Shakespearean. It’s quite amazing that these characters were written 50, 60, 70 years ago and we’re still obsessed with them.”
