Jared Leto Talks Filming ‘Suicide Squad’; Affleck Shares His Thoughts On The Movie

There were numerous reports about Jared Leto’s method acting during the lengthy production of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, which were almost too crazy to believe, despite the fact that they were later confirmed by a few actors and producers that worked on the movie.

During an interview, Will Smith himself revealed that he never spoke to Leto out of character while filming the movie. When TNT Brasil caught up with Leto at the 88th Academy Awards and asked him about that, the actor had the following to say:

I did interact, but I did it through the eyes of The Joker—which is really fun. It was fun to play that game.

The actor obviously has some big shoes to fill, but his version of the Clown Prince of Crime will be much more different than his predecessors. Expectations are high for Leto, so this role was something new to even him:

It was interesting to take on this challenge. It was unlike anything I’ve ever done before.

As for the director, Leto had nothing but good things to say about him. “He’s great! He’s an animal. I love him,” the actor told TNT Brasil. Everything we’ve seen so far from the movie indicates that Ayer has done something truly special, so it’s not surprising that the studio is already trying to get him back for a sequel.

Meanwhile, Ben Affleck, who got to see an early cut of Suicide Squad, shared his thoughts on the movie in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, which is jam-packed with details about the DC Extended Universe. Here’s what he had to say:

I’ve seen Suicide Squad, and I can tell you that movie really works. That movie is really, really cool and fun and awesome.
