Jason Momoa Discusses When ‘Aquaman 2’ Starts Filming

With Aquaman 2 slated for a December 2022 release window, Jason Momoa expects that filming will be over a year away.

Talking with Collider to promote his recently-released Apple TV+ show, See, Momoa was asked about his involvement with Dune (which he is greatly excited for) and Aquaman 2. For the latter film, Momoa explained that, due to the movie’s distant release date, he doesn’t expect to start filming anytime soon:

“I mean, Aquaman 2 will probably be a year-plus away. I don’t have a set date on that, unfortunately.”

You can see Momoa’s full comments on SeeDune, and Aquaman 2 below:

Momoa has stated that he’s incredibly excited for the sequel, but since it’s so far off, there’s not a lot that he can talk about. Black Manta is expected to be a major antagonist in the film, which will likely go into greater detail on the ocean world after the first movie spent roughly the same amount of time underwater as it did on land.

Here is the official synopsis for the first Aquaman movie:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD.
