Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman’ Sequel Gets An Official Release Date By Warner Bros.

Aquaman is officially getting a sequel as Warner Bros. has revealed that a follow-up to Jason Momoa’s first cinematic solo outing as the iconic DC Comics character is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2022.

The announcement comes as no surprise as the first Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa is already the highest-grossing DC Comics movie of all time at the worldwide box office. A spin-off revolving around the Trench is also in development but does not yet have a release date.

Aquaman was directed by James Wan. It stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Based on characters created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, Aquaman was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall based on a story by Geoff Johns, James Wan and Beall. Peter Safran and Rob Cowan produced the film, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.

Aquaman is in theaters now. The film arrives on Digital HD on March 5th, with a Blu-ray release set for March 26th. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
