‘Aquaman’: Jason Momoa On Arthur Curry Being Of Two Worlds

Aquaman is the next film in the DC Extended Universe, but with the film still just over a year away, fans have a little while to wait before marketing really kicks into high gear. Until then, however, Jason Momoa has been offering tidbits on what we can expect from the future King of Atlantis’ solo movie, which is promising to show an Arthur Curry struggling to reconcile his human and Atlantean sides.

Justice League: The Art of the Film gives us an extensive look at the making of last month’s Justice League and features Momoa looking ahead to Aquaman:

“When we find Arthur, he’s hiding on the edges of society. He knows what his power is, but he doesn’t know how to channel it. He hasn’t accepted himself as king. He’s been running from both sides, human and Atlantean, and he’s been really that outlaw and renegade and the rebel.”

After a small cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman/Arthur Curry made his full debut in Justice League, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Working as an ensemble, not much time was dedicated to Arthur’s backstory, thought we did get a scene between Arthur and Mera (Amber Heard) which focused heavily on his internal struggle, something we’ll learn much more about in Aquaman. Directed by James Wan, the movie looks to be a swashbuckling action-adventure delving into his past and his relationships with his Atlantean mother (Nicole Kidman) and human father (Temuera Morrison).

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

Aquaman is currently slated to hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
