In a shocking teaser released earlier this week, it was revealed that Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, would be helming a sequel to the comedy classic. This marks the first time since 1989’s Ghostbusters II that fans will be revisiting the original continuity of the franchise which was rebooted in 2016 but a sequel to that film doesn’t seem very likely at this point.
A new report claims that the upcoming Ghostbusters film will be centered around a cast of teenage characters. It was revealed earlier today that Ernie Hudson, Dan Akyroyd, and Bill Murray will be returning to reprise their original roles but it seems that those characters won’t be the sole focus of the film. The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, who claimed that the main cast of Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel could possibly be four teenagers, with two being boys and two being girls. Check out the Tweet below to see the full report.
A third Ghostbusters film had been in development for years prior to the release of the 2016 reboot. It seems that Sony has now returned to the idea of a third film in the franchise but sadly, Egon actor Harold Ramis has since passed on and will be the only core Ghostbusters team member not appearing in the film.
