Jason Reitman Teases Plans For ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Sequel

The Ghostbusters: Afterlife director has revealed plans for another sequel in the long-running franchise.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife has yet to hit theaters but director Jason Reitman is already teasing another sequel to the original Ghostbusters films.

The new Ghostbusters film was originally set to hit theaters next month, however, Sony was forced to delay the project until March of next year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The new film is set to feature members of the original cast reprising their iconic roles as the franchise introduces newcomers Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace who discover their connection to the original team after moving into their Grandfather’s old house.

While the global health crisis has seen the long-awaited sequel pushed back by nearly a year, Reitman is wasting no time as he revealed on a Zoom call with the original Ghostbusters cast that he is developing another film in the franchise to come following Afterlife.

“I can’t tell you anything, but we are working on another installment,” said Reitman. “We have a little bit more time, and look, as a director, I’ve never had this opportunity to actually take a pause and breathe and look at the movie again.”

Reitman went on to say that the time has been “extraordinarily valuable,” which he added he’s been using to finish editing the project. “I’ve been spending my days editing Ghostbusters, so that’s where I’ve been,” Reitman said.

While plot details remain under wraps, it’s possible we could see the return of a classic villain from the original film when Afterlife hits theaters. Reitman has said the film will be a love letter to the original films which were directed by his father, Ivan Reitman.

Here is the official synopsis for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife:

When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Gil Kena, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Bokeem Woodbine, Oliver Cooper, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 5, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife as we learn it and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content in the future!
