Jeff Bridges On ‘Iron Man’ Behind-The-Scenes Difficulties

Despite being a huge success and the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man had a lot of problems, according to Jeff Bridges.

Despite being a huge success and the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man had a lot of problems behind the scenes. In speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Bridges discusses how the script was being developed during shooting.

Iron Man — we read the script, and it wasn’t really right, you know? We had two weeks’ rehearsal, and we basically rewrote the script. And the day before we were going to shoot, we get a call from the Marvel guy, saying, ‘Oh, no, no, no. None of this is right.'”

Jeff Bridges added onto his comment while speaking with Variety.

“It turned out that many times — 10, 12, 15 times — we would show up for the days work, not knowing what we were gonna shoot. All the guys in the studio are sitting there tapping their foot, looking at their watch, and we’re sitting in my trailer trying to figure out my lines. I like to be prepared, I like to know my lines.”

Yet despite the discomfort of being unsure of what was to come, Jeff Bridges said the process made him more comfortable as an actor.

“I made a little adjustment in my head; That adjustment was – Jeff, just relax, you are in a $200 million student film, have fun, just relax.”

Luckily, even with major script issues, the first Iron Man turned out to be a great film.
