Jesse L. Martin Set To Return For Remainder Of ‘The Flash’ Season 5

Jesse L. Martin, who has not been seen since the fourth episode of the fifth season of The Flash, is finally set to return after coming back from medical leave.

If you recall, it was reported back in October of last year that Martin was taking a bit of medical leave due to a back injury during the summer. Fans had noticed during his appearances on the recent season of The Flash that whenever Joe West appeared, he was either sitting down or leaning on something. That in and of itself was just speculation, but it was later confirmed that Martin had sustained a back injury, causing his character to no longer be seen on the series for a brief period.

But TV Line recently learned that Jesse L. Martin is back on set for filming of the CW series and will be back in episode 15. The Flash itself returns from its midseason break this Tuesday, January 15th, with its 10th episode. And Joe’s absence has very much been felt. He was not present during the entirety of the “Elseworlds” crossover, as well as the ongoing situation with Cicada, but The Flash took care to explain Joe’s absence.

If you’ve been following along with the series thus far, what did you think of Joe’s absence on The Flash? And what are your thoughts on Jesse L. Martin’s upcoming return to the series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates on The Flash as the midseason premiere approaches.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, Hartley Sawyer and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

The Flash returns for the remainder of its fifth season on Tuesday, January 15th on the CW.
