If you grew up in the ’90s while comedian Jim Carrey was around making movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective or Liar, Liar, then you know he goes straight to your funny bone every single time. Last night during the Golden Globes Award Ceremony, hosts Adam Samberg and Sandra Oh did a bit with Carrey were they seemingly kicked him out from the movie section for not making a film during the last year, so they asked him to move to the tv artist’s section. He tried to stay in the movie section by saying “I just finished a film, it’s called Sonic the Hedgehog, comes out in November!”. Even after that, Samberg and Oh asked him politely to leave as he took his dinner plate because he didn’t want “to leave any of his DNA on the film section”. Access posted the clip of the hilarious bit on Twitter for your viewing pleasure:
We all know Carrey is a great talent and his casting as Dr. Robotnik in the new Sonic movie was a pleasant surprise. Even though hoarding huge success in the ’90s, Carrey’s career grew stagnant in recent years, while he tried to move into more dramatic films like Dark Crimes or The Number 23. Nonetheless, he’s still remembered as one of the best comedians of the last 20 years. Sadly, the Sonic the Hedgehog film has received fairly mixed opinions on social media since the release of its first movie posters. The visual style shown in there depicts a realistic approach to its CGI which dumbfounded fans of the beloved SEGA character all around.
Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog features the voices talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.
The Sonic the Hedgehog film will follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski and Sonic as they embark on a road trip to San Francisco in a race to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the villainous Dr. Robotnik.
Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2019.
