Jing Tian Joins John Boyega In ‘Pacific Rim 2’

Variety reports that Kong: Skull Island star Jing Tian has joined Legendary’s Pacific Rim 2. The sequel to the 2013 original which made over $410 million at the worldwide box office is currently in pre-production. The film will star Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega in the lead, as well as Suicide Squad star Scott Eastwood in a supporting role. Boyega will portray the son of Idris Elba’s deceased character; it is unclear who Tian will play. The first film starred Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Robert Kazinsky and was directed by Guillermo del Toro who will return to produce the upcoming sequel.

Daredevil‘s Steven S. DeKnight will direct the film based on a screenplay written by Emily Carmichael. The new film is set to begin production in Australia this November, with a portion of the movie being shot in China, much like the 2013 film.

The original Pacific Rim was set in a distant future and involved soldiers of Earth taking to giant robots to engage in battle with the Kaiju, monsters who rose from an interdimensional portal in the Pacific Ocean (thus the name).

Pacific Rim 2 is set to hit theatres everywhere on February 28, 2018.
