Empire Magazine new magazine cover offers fans a sinister look at Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

Director Todd Phillips will soon offer audiences a new take on the origins of the Joker, with acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix being the latest performer to portray the Clown Prince of Crime. While the movie is still three months away from hitting theaters, Empire’s new magazine cover offers fans a never-before-scene glimpse at Joaquin Phoenix as the classic Batman villain. The cover also reveals a new look at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker’s alter-ego, Arthur Fleck.

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
