Avengers: Endgame is less than a month away and the majority of the film has remained a closely guarded secret. When Marvel Studios first announced Avengers: Infinity War, it was as two parts. Joe Russo and his brother Anthony filmed both films back to back, but it has been said Endgame and Infinity War are not two parts of one story. Infinity War brought together a plethora of MCU heroes, but Thanos served as the main character. It seems Endgame will put the focus back on the original Avengers team as they try to undo Thanos’ snap. Joe Russo spoke with Box Office Pro, where he teased how the last two Avengers films are different:
“That’s a tricky one to answer without giving anything away, but I will say that the movie is definitely unique in tone. It has its own spirit that’s different than Infinity War, which is why I was keen for us to separate the movies. Of course, we’re handing off narratives and it’s been serialized over 22 movies. But, it’s different tonally than Infinity War and it is told from a different point of view. It was important for us in our minds as film directors to separate those two because we do not want to make the same movie twice, and ways that you can differentiate films are through tone and point of view.”
Joe Russo is also known for directing 2014’s Captain America: Winter Soldier and its 2016 sequel Captain America: Civil War with his brother Anthony Russo before boarding Endgame and Infinity War.
