‘Avatar’: Joel David Moore Will Return For The Sequels

Joel David Moore, who played Norm Spellman in James Cameron‘s record-breaking Avatar, will be returning to Pandora with the filming of the four planned sequels.

Empire Online has revealed that Moore is going to be returning to Pandora as the anthropologist Norm Spellman. Spellman was one of the many humans who was able to control a Na’vi “Avatar” – a biologically-constructed alien/human hybrid that is controlled psionically by an unconscious human being – which puts humans on better footing to interact with the lanky aliens. More importantly, he was the one to introduce the franchise’s hero – Jake Sully – to the actual process.

Not much is known about the plot of the second Avatar film, other than the fact that it will be based around exploring Pandora’s oceans this time around. The sequels are expected to explore more of the history of the planet, and it’s also been indicated that some of the planned sequels may actually spend time on the other planets of the Alpha Centauri System where Pandora is located.

Four Avatar sequels are planned for release in the Decembers of 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025. Avatar 2‘s cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, and newcomer Cliff Curtis.
