Joel Kinnaman Confirmed For James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Rick Flag for James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is shaping up to be one of the most interesting upcoming DC projects. The Suicide Squad was initially said to be a reboot that wouldn’t acknowledge the first film at all. However, all of that went out the window when it was announced that Idris Elba would be playing Deadshot in the movie, replacing Will Smith.

Fans were very surprised when this news came out and realized that we could potentially see some familiar faces return. While Elba is now playing a diffrent character, we know that Suicide Squad actors Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis will be back for the Jame Gunn movie. Now, Joel Kinnaman has confirmed his return as Rick Flag

Rick Flag is often portrayed as the leader of Task Force X in the comics. Many fans really enjoyed Joel Kinnaman’s cold militaristic performance and hoped he would come back to reprise the role. Well, Rick Flag fans can rejoice as Kinnaman recently took to his Instagram to confirm his involvement in the film.  You can check out his Instagram post below!

It seems James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad might be a sequel after all. So far, we know that the cast will include Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney and David Dastmalchian. Additionally, John Cena and Daniela Melchior are being eyed for key roles.

The Suicide Squad is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes The Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Nightwing, Supergirl and New Gods.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
