Johnny Depp debuted his portrayal of the Harry Potter villain Grindelwald in 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The Harry Potter spin-off featured Johnny Depp in a cameo that set up his return in the 2018 sequel Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald.
A third Fantastic Beasts sequel is set to continue the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, which will apparently conclude in a fifth film, but a recent development in the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard court case may have Warner Bros. worried about the franchise’s future.
According to a report from Page Six, sources have told them that Warner Bros. is nervous about moving forward with the third Fantastic Beasts film due to Johnny Depp’s legal issues with Amber Heard. The report reveals that female executives are trepidatious about working with Johnny Depp on future Harry Potter films over a recent advancement in the Amber Heard suit, in which the Aquaman star recounted Johnny Depp’s alleged abuse in a new court filing. This is what sources had to tell Page Six about the Warner Bros./Johnny Depp situation.
“High-level female execs at the studio are extremely worried about working with Depp and the message it sends to the public, especially after the recent sordid departure of CEO Kevin Tsujihara.”
The report also claims that a source said this about Harry Potter creator JK Rowling’s support for Johnny Depp after the Amber Heard allegations.
“Many at Warner Bros. wish that Rowling hadn’t come out so strongly behind Depp, because having made her opinion so public boxes them into a corner.”
In 2017, JK Rowling came out in support of Fantastic Beasts star Johnny Depp following the Amber Heard allegations.
