A few weeks back, Phillips shared a set photo of Phoenix as Arthur Fleck donning traditional clown makeup – different from the Joker makeup he will don when he becomes the Clown Prince of Crime in Gotham City. Now, we have some brand new photos of Phoenix in goofy clown makeup while also twirling around a sales sign that says, “Everything Must Go!!”
This is likely before we see Arthur finally turn and transform fully into the Joker. You can check out Phoenix donning the goofy clown makeup in these photos here.
The more set photos and footage released for this upcoming film, the more many are starting to turn to the idea of this film being something special. Many scoffed at the idea of DC Films exploring standalone stories separate from its current DCEU, but perhaps this will be a great opportunity to differentiate themselves from other studios such as Marvel and even Sony’s Marvel adaptations such as Venom to a certain extent.
Are you excited to see the range of craziness Phoenix will bring to the role? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest DC Films news.
Here is the reported plot synopsis for the film.
“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
