Last year, actor and rapper Lakeith Stanfield expressed his desire to play the Joker by reaching out to Martin Scorsese on Twitter back when the filmmaker was attached to project as a producer. While Joaquin Phoenix was ultimately cast as the Joker in the origin film, Lakeith Stanfield has recreated the test footage director Todd Phillips released that first revealed Phoenix in full makeup as the DC villain. Posted on his official Instagram account, Lakeith Stanfield did the makeup on his own and even included the song “Laughing” by The Guess Who.

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
