Joker started as a strange rumor months ago and many thought it would never make it beyond just that. Now that fans have finally gotten their first glimpse at the Joker (Joaquin Phoenix), the hype for the DC villain origin movie has skyrocketed. Not only did director Todd Phillips release an official make-up test featuring a nice close up of Phoenix in the makeup, plenty of set photos featuring the clown prince of crime in his iconic suit and make-up hit the internet yesterday.
The photos released yesterday feature Joker in a Gotham city subway. Now, a new set photo from the film gives fans a closer look at a subway map that’s full of Easter eggs for eagle-eyed DC fans. Check out the photo below and see if you can spot the nods to the titular Batman foe.
As you can see in the images above, the subway map includes some great nods to the franchise such as Jester Pl, Prince St, Queens Ave, Kings Ave, Gotham St, Wayne Av, and Jack St., presumably a nod to Jack Nicholson, who famously played the clown prince of crime in 1989’s Batman. Phoenix is joining a long line of high-profile actors who have played the iconic DC villain he already seems to be setting up a very unique take on him, while paying proper homage to the comics.
Details regarding Joker have been sparse considering it isn’t hitting theaters until October 19, but these set photos are slowly starting to reveal what kind of film Phillips and Phoenix have for audiences, which seems to be one of the more unique comic book films releasing next year. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Joker as more information becomes available. Are these set photos getting you hyped for the film?
