Jon Bernthal Reflects On Netflix Cancelling ‘Marvel’s The Punisher’

During a panel at Fan Fest Chicago, Jon Bernthal reflected on Netflix’s decision to cancel Marvel’s The Punisher.

In February, Netflix opted to pull the plug on Marvel’s The Punisher just one month after the second season debuted on the streaming service. The news was hardly a surprise considering Netflix had already canceled Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, though The Punisher season 2 star Josh Stewart noted that it was still disappointing:

“The way this business is, you fall in love with something, and they take it from you. You know what I mean? So it’s just the nature of it, it’s the cycle of it. It sucks, but what can you do?”

Jon Bernthal, who portrayed Frank Castle for two seasons following his debut as the character in Daredevil season 2, concurred with Stewart’s comments and reflected on how grateful he was to have had the experience of working on The Punisher:

“I think that’s right. I think in this business, you gotta be grateful for what you got, that you had the opportunity to do it, you had an opportunity to work with people you love and respect. And you gotta kinda leave it at that. A lot of these decisions about what goes out there, those decisions happen in rooms that we’re definitely not invited to [laughs]. And the cool thing about the way stuff is now, it’s not going anywhere, it’s right there on Netflix. It’s there forever.”
