Jon Hamm & Ansel Elgort Joked About Playing Batman & Superman Years Ago

Actors Jon Hamm and Ansel Elgort joked about playing Batman and Superman now the actor are rumored to be back in the mix to carry the torch after Ben Affleck dropped out of the role.

The Dark Knight mantle is yet again vacant and rampant fan speculation is running amuck per usual. The Batman is a sacred role thanks to all the comic book fans that have made it that way, so not just anybody can be the man behind the mask.

Since his film debut in 1989’s Batman starring Michael Keaton, the world’s most greatest detective has seen three different talented actors put on the cowl. The latest of which was Ben Affleck following up Christian Bale’s take on the caped crusader.

Now that the title is up for grabs, long time fan selection Jon Hamm’s name is back in circulation. CinePop has shared an interview where Hamm joked about playing the role in a reboot of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice starring himself and fellow Baby Driver actor Ansel Elgort as Superman.

“Ansel and I are going to be in the remake of Batman v Superman. He’s going to play Superman, I’m going to play Batman.”

Turning the attention onto Superman, Elgort has also been a long time fan selection as well. Sure he may not be the typical size of the larger than life Kryptonian, but that’s why these actors pay personal trainers for. However, he is younger and that’s the direction the DC extended universe wants to go.

For that reason alone Hamm is by no means a lock to star in Matt Reeve’s standalone filmGoing younger gives you a better chance at locking actors in for the long haul. Just ask the friendly competition over at Marvel Studios.

What do you think about Jon Hamm playing the Dark Knight? Would you want to see him the upcoming The Batman film or should DC go younger? Let us know in the comments below!

Details for the upcoming film are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger caped crusader and includes multiple villains. Matt Reeves also confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic, but will make full use of the dark knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous films.

Matt Reeves’ film is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films, including The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

The film is slated to be released in theaters on June  25, 2021.
