Josh Brolin Says ‘Deadpool 2’ Cable Performance Felt Like A ‘Business Transaction’

The star felt the pressure of all the comedy in 'Deadpool 2'.

Deadpool 2 star Josh Brolin recently opened about playing Cable in the Ryan Reynolds film and explained why his performance felt like a business transaction.

Although it’s currently unclear whether Josh Brolin will reprise his role as Cable after Deadpool 2 following Disney’s Fox acquisition, the star recently looked back on his performance when speaking to legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins on the Team Deakins podcast and had an interesting perspective on the character. Deadpool and Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld had previously mentioned that Brolin wants to pick up the character in the future, and had even mentioned the prospect of a solo movie alongside X-Force.

But when Josh Brolin spoke to Roger Deakins about his Deadpool 2 role, he explained that because it was an action-comedy, it made getting his performance right a little more difficult than his other Marvel character, Thanos, in Avengers. He noted that the comedy was a necessary requirement, which is why it was like a transaction. It’s easy to see why the actor saw playing Cable in Deadpool 2 in that way, since comedy goes hand-in-hand with Wade Wilson’s Merc with a Mouth. Take a look at Josh Brolin discussing Cable below.

“Deadpool was hard. Even though it was funny, it was harder. That was more of a business transaction, it was more, ‘We need to make this like this,’ whereas I didn’t feel that way with Avengers.”

What do you make of Josh Brolin’s thoughts on his Cable performance in Deadpool 2? Did you enjoy seeing the hero arrive in the sequel? Do you want to see the star reprise the role in the future? Sound-off in the comments below!

Here is the plot synopsis for Deadpool 2:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Directed by David Leitch from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.

Deadpool 2 is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Josh Brolin and Cable and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more video content.
