Josh Trank Says There’s No Need For His ‘Fantastic Four’ Cut

Fantastic Four director Josh Trank says that there’s “no need” for his cut of the film.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Zack Snyder’s long-awaited cut of Justice League is coming to the HBO Max streaming service after years of teasing, speculation and fan uproar. The announcement of Snyder’s cut has prompted many fandoms to consider what the next comic book film to receive a director’s cut should be. While some have advocated for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, another film from the DC Extended Universe that was meddled with, others believe that Josh Trank’s original version of Fantastic Four should see the light of day. While fans may be ready to find their next crusade, Trank says there’s “no need” for his cut of Fantastic Four to be advocated for.

In a tweet replying to a fan who said that the fandom would rally for Josh Trank’s version of Fantastic Four, the director had a less than enthusiastic response.

Production on Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four was notoriously a mess, especially for a big-budget property. The director and 20th Century Fox clashed numerous times, with the latter reshooting about a third of the film and slashing millions of dollars from the project’s original budget. After the film’s release, Trank disowned the film and said that his version of the film would have been “fantastic.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Trank or the studio (which is now owned by Disney) are particularly interested in reviving their maligned iteration of the Fantastic Four.
