Joss Whedon was recently announced to direct an upcoming Batgirl movie to be featured in the DC Extended Universe and hasn’t officially said anything about it until now. Variety caught Whedon at the Premiere of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 tonight and got to chat with him who he would cast as Barbara Gordon in his upcoming Batgirl movie.
While, Whedon didn’t really give a straightforward answer, he did have this to say:
“I don’t have my eye on anybody. I feel like I’m creating this character, i’m in a dialogue with her and then we’ll see who joins that later on. I doubt there will be a name. I think this is something where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her”
No further details about the Batgirl movie are known at this time besides the fact that it is said to feature “other characters from the world of Gotham,” as expected. Warner Bros. President and Chief Content Officer Toby Emmerich is overseeing the project alongside DC Films co-heads Jon Berg and Geoff Johns.
The Batgirl movie is the latest in a long line of DC projects that are currently in various stages of development, including The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Green Lantern Corps, The Flash, Shazam, Black Adam, Justice League Dark, Cyborg, Deadshot, Booster Gold/Blue Beetle along with sequels to Suicide Squad, Man of Steel and Justice League. Keep checking back for more updates on all of the above.
