Joss Whedon Is Still Working On DC’s Standalone ‘Batgirl’ Movie

In spite of a rumor to the contrary, Joss Whedon is still attached to direct Batgirl and is working on the movie's script.

DC’s movie division has the misfortune to run into negative rumors every now and then, and most recently, one outlet has alleged that Joss Whedon would no longer be directing Batgirl. However, more reliable sources indicate that this report is untrue.

The rumor follows a report that Joss Whedon liked a tweet criticizing the villain of Justice League. The rumor suggests that this really didn’t sit well with the higher-ups, and they wanted him off of the project. Heroic Hollywood founder Umberto Gonzalez has confirmed that the rumor is not accurate. You can check out his tweet below.

It’s worth noting that the only reason that a Batgirl movie is in development at all, according to the people working at DC Films, is that everyone there really liked Joss Whedon’s pitch – so there would be no sense in pulling him off of a project when he’s the driving force leading to it being made at all. If the movie takes a “Buffy The Vampire Slayer In Tights” approach like many suspect it will, then it only makes sense that Whedon is invested in the project.

Batgirl is currently in development at DC Films. Stay tuned for more updates on the movie!
