Joss Whedon Calls Henry Cavill The Best Superman Since Christopher Reeve

Joss Whedon recently praised Henry Cavill for his portrayal of Superman, calling him the best Man of Steel since Christopher Reeve.

Christopher Reeve made his debut as Superman in 1978 and played the iconic DC Comics character in a total of four movies. Decades after his first cinematic solo outing as the Man of Steel, Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman is still the definitive version for many fans, but some have also embraced Henry Cavill’s take on the character in the DC Extended Universe.

One of those people is none other than The Avengers director Joss Whedon, the filmmaker who completed Justice League after Zack Snyder had to step way from the project due to a family tragedy. Last night, Joss Whedon tweeted the following about Henry Cavill’s work as Superman and how he considers him the best one since Christopher Reeve.

Fans of Zack Snyder have heavily criticized Joss Whedon for the changes he made to Justice League and specifically Henry Cavill’s role as Superman in the movie. The actor’s future as the Man of Steel has been in doubt ever since its release, but many fans are still hoping that he’ll one day return to the role.

Do you agree with Joss Whedon’s thoughts on Henry Cavill’s Superman or do you prefer Christopher Reeve’s take on the character? Sound-off your thoughts in the comments!

Henry Cavill will next trade his Superman costume for the lead role on Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher. Based on the fantasy series of novels and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix’s The Witcher will follow the monster slayer for hire named Geralt of Rivia. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich will also serve as an executive producer on the series while Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez and Charlotte Brändström are on board as directors for the eight-episode first season.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe, Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson as Eist, Adam Levy as Mousesack, MyAnna Buring as Aretuza, and Millie Brady as Princess Renfri, with Mimi Ndiweni and Therica Wilson-Read as novice sorcerers. The series will be available on Netflix later this year.
