Jeff Goldblum Reveals His Character Was Almost Written Out Of ‘Jurassic Park’

During the special features of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Jeff Goldblum revealed that he was almost written out of the original Jurassic Park.

It’s hard to imagine a world without Doctor Ian Malcolm. Classic lines like “life, uh, finds a way” and “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should” seem exclusive to that character. But in a Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom special feature titled “Fallen Kingdom: The Conversation” Goldblum revealed that his character was almost written out:

“When I first met Steven Spielberg at Amblin, he came in and said, ‘You know, there’s a movement afoot, a new rewrite is happening, and your character, Ian Malcolm, is being written out. We probably wanna give these funny lines and kinda incorporate your character into the Sam Neil character.'”

As expected, the cast was shocked by the news, but none as much as Bryce Dallas Howard who’s mouth fell agape with the news. Luckily the rewrite never took place and Ian Malcolm graced us not once, but 3 more times in subsequent films, images, and gifs that have ruled the internet since the dawn of its time.

Do you think they made the right call with keeping Goldblum? Let us know in the comments.
